Rishaku temple has a long and distinguished history. Rishaku temple is in Tateishi (situated in Nagano, Iida). On the way to Tateishi there is a mountain pass which has an old weeping cherry tree with a long history. From the mountain pass, you can view the Tateishi Basin and in the center of it, there are male and female Japanese cedars, which are both over a thousand years old.

古刹・立石寺がある立石に向かう道の途中の峠には、幾歳重ねた老木の枝垂れ桜があります。この峠からは、遙かに立石盆地と中央にそびえる樹齢千年を誇る雄杉・雌杉が望めます。

The cedars are the emblems of Tateishi village. From the village, the view of cedars evokes huge nostalgia, as you are looking back through one thousand years of history.
